Help on where to find a D.I.Y. guide for a 300sd / OM617 Head Gasket Replacement?

Hi Guys!

As some of you may know, my 300sd was having some problems back a few months ago. After a temporary fix, I bought another car and decided to fix the '83 300sd as best I could, and correctly (not rushing through just because I need a car to get to work)...

I was wondering if anybody knew some good links or had instructions on the head gasket replacement procedures for this vehicle? I am experienced and also have a whiz of a mechanic nearby.. (who miraculously brought an Alfa GTV6, with a bad fuel pump, which had been sitting for 4 years, after it had been sitting for another 3 years in some guy's garage, back from the dead with a 1/2 pair of pantyhose, quart of gasoline, and a toothpick in under 5 minutes... I won't even get into the Diesel Peugeot 504 story... our awesome mechanic (been with us for 5 years, averages the equivilant of an engine swap a day) is lovingly nicknamed Alfredo, the Mexican McGuyver!) It was a sight to see him in the Alfa... we thought he had just pushed the car and gotten inside as a joke. Then we saw the muffler shaking!

We have a small-ish classic / unique car lot with all the proper tools and a bay, and if need be, I can obtain the special things n' tools needed.

Any links or directions?
I shall be forever grateful.

You need the FSM to adequately perform that task.

Don't try the job without it.

Did he put the half panty hose on and voodoo danced to bring the dead Alfa back to life? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Seriously what did he use the panty hose for? fuel filter?

ps. listen to Brian, he seldom (or never) gives bad advice.
