Fuse panel door- WTF?

Mine is broken at lower left hand corner and still difficult to remove but possible. I got a good non broken used one but couldn't get it in. Is there a trick to it? I don't want to break it trying.

you need to have 3 hands, and 5 elbows. it goes in, but you have to finagle it in. I think you have to stuff it behind the booster, then pivot it in from there.

Yeah, it's a real PITA. I usually try getting the left side of the cover in behind the booster, and then pivot it so the top left corner will go in, and then it just kind of falls into place.

I think it's spelled "YETI."

To get the fuse compartment on/off, sometimes it helps to partially remove the rubber seal at the rear of the engine compartment, the one the hood closes against.

I never have to do any of this. I insert vertically behind the MBC and then rotate it as needed.

FWIW,

On my 85 300TD the panel cover still has the clips that keep the screws from coming out of the cover.

On my 84 300TD these clips are gone and the screws come out of the cover.

I find it easier to remove and install with the screws out.

I find it much easier if the hood is as vertical as possible (ala the little levers on the hinges).

The "force" was with me

I got it! I felt an overwhelming "force" and decided to give it a go and it slipped in within 2 seconds.

The right technique helps too. Winmutt's way did it. Slip in vertically, get it under the lip of the moulding, rotate 90 degree clockwise and voilla!

Should be in the owners manual.
Another practical joke of the Mercedes engineers?

I already have one that's broken at the corner (from po). I wonder how many are broken from frustrated owners. With the right technique an unbroken one goes in easily.

Hitler's revenge?

After playing with it 3 or 4 times you'll get pretty good at it.
