OM617.952 front main TRANNY seal replacement.
Ok guys i didnt think it was so ,but i found out today my huge tranny leak was as i suspected......the worst of them all THE FRONT MAIN SEAL.
so heres the thing i found out that 2 of the 6 bolts holding the torque coverter to the flex plate were SUPER loose so that means it killed the main seal and sure enough thats the only place where it leaks. so how i know how to do it ,but i dont know the part number and i dont know the EXACT way to do it.....has anyone done this and also what are some easy to replace seals while i have her out im gonna have a total of 1-2days from 9am to 9pm......i know i can change the main tranny seal in a day taking out the motor and stuff and putting it back. ok guys shoot.

You can probably count the number of active members on here who have actually seen a front seal on one hand. I have not done it myself, personally on a 722.3xx ( what hangs on a 617.952 engine) - I have done a 722.1xx, but I am not sure they are all that similar in the front pump area. You had better find a manual, or be more patient.

You might try looking in the EPC to see if the TCs have the same part number. If the 280ce has a four bolt pan ( 722.1xx) I would think not.

I just did the front pump seal in my 85 300SD about a month ago. My pump bushing was trashed... I figured that is what caused the seal to wear. Transtar industries had the seal and bushing. I got the gasket and o-ring from mercedesshop. I figured if I was taking the trans out I would replace all the pump seals and also check the condition of the pump gears.
