Wanted: Two things

front bumper/fairing for 1987 300TD wagon, (126, isn't it?) the 'new' ones are way 'spensive. Yeah, I know, that's a hard one but I'm asking anyway

--advice.
Car is white. Grey stain from exhaust all over the back hatch. Last time I worked on it, I used rubbing compound. R.C. did work, not real well, but wow, lots of work to clean it.

Anyone here used Star Brite's 'hull cleaner,' which is oxalic acid solution, to bleach out the soot stains?

TIA
tami

What's your geographic location?

I've got one, shipping may be an issue though.

Try a clay bar to remove the stains. I have a Arctic White 190E, and after a clay bar, I had to wear sunglasses on a cloudy day to look at the car. It cleaned the paint like you would not believe.

Thanks

I'm in the Biloxi Miz'sippi area. If y'all can ship, PM me with price

What's a clay bar?

I've been using the Star Brite stuff on my boats for a long time, both painted and gelcoat. SB works pretty well on boat scum and below-waterline stuff. I don't believe it's intended for scuff marks and topdeck schmutz. My main concern with it on paint is the possibility of porosity issues, although my plan is to bleach and then immediately wax.

comments appreciated, waiting for replies on bumperfairing thingie

Bon Ami. Hands down. Only on a white finish, however.

Sprinkle a small amount on a wet wash mit. A little goes a long way. Use no pressure. Let the Bon Ami do the work. You'll have to follow-up with a quality polish & wax system. Bon Ami will pick up where clay bars leave off. On a white car - guaranteed.

Use a small amount on the bristles of a small, soft toothbrush to remove the soot from around the emblems on the rear lid as well.

I believe there was an article on the use of Bon Ami in the STAR in the mid-nineties; advocating its use.
