So called Altitude switch on 75 240D manual?

I keep hearing people talking of an altitude switch on there 240D's but have yet to find it. This is a California 240D now residing in the mountains of Utah, I have quite a bit of smoke when I accelerate when cruising I can't see any but when I punch it smoke prevails.

It's called the ADA. The same function as the turbo engine's ALDA but it uses atmosphere pressure instead of boost pressure.

Adjusting the screw CCW increases fuel CW decreases fuel.

If it's a 75, it probably looks like this. It's a knob w/ a notch on it and there are 4 different altitude settings. You have to manually set it based on your altitude.

Great cuz mine looks like this. Now I am wondering what the hell the red button does? Is it normal for oil to be coming from the engine cap? I attached a picture.

Regarding the oil leaking from the cap, try replacing the gasket (they dry out):

I also put a little grease around the seal to prevent leakage.

Hmm got it. Anyone know how much should be in there or what kind of oil? I opened it and it looks dry. It also looks like the red cap is right where the altitude adj should be.

By the way thanks Forced for all of the help. These 75 240D's are nothing like 84 300D's.

On the side of the pump below the red oel fill cap there is a plug. Unscrew the plug and fill until oil starts to run out the plug. (It does not take very much).

What kind of oil? Motor oil? Also does anyone know if I can use Power Steering fluid in the 240D? I don't know what is in it now and bought some PS fluid today. Heard Dextron 3 kills the seals.

The pump in this picture with the red cap is a M pump and does not have an ADA.

Ordinary motor oil, nothing special.

You might want to see if you can siphon off a bit of the existing oil. Sometimes a little fuel gets in there and dilutes the oil.

So how do I adjust the fuel amount with no ADA? This is a California car in the Utah mountain area and it smokes a lot while accelerating. only has 60,000 on the motor.

Right foot. With no ADA it just has full fuel avaliable all of the time.
