Ebay Amg???

As far as I know there hasn't been a post regarding this car. Might be worth someone's time...:)

Thats not an AMG. The AMG badge is the wrong type for the era.

I saw a set of AMG trim panels for a 123 coupe on fleabay about a year or two back. They weren't cheap.

turbo240 07-17-2007 01:06 AM

That cars been on Ebay before. I guess he didn't sell it the first time. Im still waiting for my Amg body kit I ordered from a member on another forum. I sure hope I get it.

truckinik 07-17-2007 03:59 AM

I've got three full AMG body kits, and some extra parts, for 123 coupes, sitting new in boxes here. Plenty of sets of wheels, suspension components, basically everything I could need to build atleast two complete 123, Euro, AMG, V-8 Stick Shift cars, with complete interiors. It all started when I needed some body parts for my 82 280CE EURO, to make an AMG clone out of it. That car there, is a fake, I can assure you of that much. AMG, in reality, only made TWO, that's right TWO, original AMG coupes, and I've located BOTH of the originals. Neither of which can be acquired for less than $110k USD. Mine will be fake, also, but I won't try and pawn them off as the real deal, like this guy is. The only TWO coupes they made, in the 123, were both big V-8 cars with Stick shifts, NOT six cylinder cars.

I'm the 123 Coupe, fanatic around here, and big time AMG researcher. I have been looking into AMG, Euro Coupes, for a long time, and overturned literally every stone imaginable, to find, and research them. I've spent a whole lot of money, just in reasearch alone. Their original plan was to produce them, but everyone was buying other models, and nobody ever ordered any Coupes, except for TWO guys. One of which, lived in California, and the car is Blue, the other of which, lived in Amsterdam, and the car is red, with tan, and even been pictured on this site a time or three. The AMG inventory of parts for the 123 Coupes, was distributed out, or held onto, by a few of AMG's people, and the parts are very rare, and 'spensive. That's a regular Euro 280 CE with a kit installed, of which is very likely, a knock off kit, and differnt than the original. Even his front spoiler, is wrong for the car. Fun to look at though. If it were the "real deal" however, it would have been long snatched up by myself, or another party by now. Everyone knows though, that it isn't either one of the TWO, that were done by AMG, so no AMG guys even look at the car thrice...It does look great, but it isn't a real AMG coupe...Just another clone..

Not really an AMG car.

The two words most commonly thrown around to try and WILDLY inflate the prices of used Mercedes:

1. "BIODIESEL"

2. "AMG"

Only the chin spoiler is from AMG on that car.

The AMG trunk badging is period incorrect for the W123.

The modified grille looks hideous and the side skirts look just silly.

Truckinik, how did you find out only two were ever made? Were both of those 5.0s or the 2.8s? I know that AMG never kept good records, and I too have spent considerable time chasing the "AMG thing", and I'd like to know how you got a production number - maybe I can use that same info to resolve some of my own questions. Thanks.

PS - I like how the ad states the AC system "needs some massaging to get it to work" - just a shot of freon, I'm sure.

miljohnj5 07-17-2007 08:43 AM

Awesome...

I love all the knowledge available for MB's on this forum. Just from looking at pictures I've noticed too that it doesn't have the trunk 'lip' or spoiler unless that wasn't supposed to be part of the original AMG coupe production. But then again, it doesn't matter because it's still a genuine fake.

turbo240 07-17-2007 10:09 AM

Not to high jack, but do you AMG guys know the part numbers for the 123 AMG Bilstien shocks?

Jim B. 07-17-2007 10:17 AM

^^^I think Zack (user name: Boardmonger) probably knows, he's got a large vintage AMG stash of parts and I think he probably has the shocks among them....he is working on restoring a W123 AMG 280CE coupe....

I've secured a source for the info, within AMG. They did not do well with keeping records, but they did of course keep some. Much of it, is in accordian folders, in their archives department where my pettite little, cute sweetheart works. She gets me info. So far, she has been able to answer nearly all of my questions, except for three, about later 126 cars. For some reason, AMG kept better records before, and after computers came in, but there is this huge grey zone, during the transition, in between, and all of these blank spots in the records. Much of the info is there though. Some of the files have the person's name who ordered the car new in them.I haven't had this much luck lately, but she says they do.

They did keep files, and info though. They know as well as you and I do, that if they ever admitted publically, that they have files, or fulfilled every single request, they'd need to hire a staff, specifically for that task, to search, and send info out to car owners. What do they care about us..? They sold the cars a long time ago, and made their money off of them, which was their sole intention. After that, they don't actually care what happens to a car. Typical heartless corporation I guess, but what can we do? I have my little inside source though. She helps me out when she can, and I send her chocolates/flowers, etc. She's a pretty easy pawn, but sometimes she wants cash for her services. What info wee you looking for..? P.M. me, or email me. I think my box, is about full, so you'd be better of emailing me. I will ask her.
Nick

PS. Both cars were 5.0 cars. Both of them had things like painted trim, bumpers, and were full Euro packages. Of the two, I don't know which I would choose. I'm not into red, but I think I'd choose the red one form our famous picture here. The car is not in the states though, and I don't know if it's for sale. The blue one is for sale always, and is in the states. She wants $110k starting bid on the car...hhmmmm

I sent him a PM a while ago and never heard back from him. I have a pretty good connection with Bistein since we pretty much got them going in the off road industry years back. They dont keep good records. If they dont sell it anymore it kind of falls out of there system. They cant go by application only part number. I need the number so I can get the valving information so I can get the pistons and valve stacks. I was going to put a set together my self.

Aside from a body kit, which could easily be pieced together, there's not much different about the car except the standard trans, from my regular 82 280CE Euro. I bet it's in much nicer shape than min though, and it's a stick. HMMM...Pondering, Pondering....

vstech 07-17-2007 11:46 AM

the rims look nice.
I love the quote "standard leather and cloth seats" did they do leather/cloth seats? I thought the cloth went only with the tex sides... afik, cloth was a frugal option... check the cracks in the dash, and the pass door is way out of alignment.

It might be a decent euro, once you removed all that plastic crap, got rid of the silly grill, and put on the correct wheels.
