do a search for "rack damper" adjustment....it will tell you about the rack damper bolt and what it does to minimize engine shaking at idle.

Setting correctly will save you many headaches! If you replace, you'll need to use the lock nut and "o" ring from the one that is in there now, make sure said ring is seated properly. This is where I went wrong, worked for a few months, then the shakes. I thought I installed everything like I was supposed to...Ha-Ha! Anyway, if you can tell what color the bolt is, gold is good, silver, replace with a gold one. To set new bolt: warm, running engine, loosen lock nut, hand tighten in until you feel resistance, back out till smooth idle, tighten lock nut. 12mm RD bolt, 14mm lock nut. I use stubby gear wrenches, but normal lengths will work.

my impression

I peeled off the old o' ring and put it on my gold one (figured it needed to be there). Sounds like that was the right move, though if I get a leak I'll know to get a new o-ring.

I'm on day two and so far so good in terms of idle shakes. What I was concened with was that the new gold damper was screwed in 99%? Should the idle stumble or engine stall if all the way in? As soon as I put it in the shakes were much better. Seem to be good in a wide range (1/4" out to near flush).

Does that seem right?

Try changing the right engine mount and the engine shocks with all new rubber to go with them. Also change the tranny mount while you are at it. Good luck.

I agree...the right side engine mount takes way more of a beating because thats the side that takes all the torque when accelerating....always replace both mounts.
