Chipped away a little more tonight. I got the pump tightened down and the belt tensioned. I then installed the fan, pulley and alt. belt and tensioned. That alt. belt is not an easy belt to install. I had to remove fan and pulley again, loosen alt up to it's max, put belt around all pulleys then install fan pulley onto water pump with belt on. Then with pliers turn water pump shaft until holes lined up for fan. Only way I could figure out how to get the belt on.....
I had to swap out glow plug wiring harness, as the relay accepted a 6 pin connector, and the gp harness from engine had 4 pins.

I posted another question about what these probes are in the head. Old engine had 2

"new" engine has 1.

I keep getting these reminders of the differences that are present during the "run" of a certain model.

It is starting to look more and more like it might run some day. Got the fan, shroud and radiator in place. Attached oil cooler to radiator.

Then it was mosquito:30 and time to come in.........
Boy I can't wait to get this running so I can drive to the carwash and hit the engine degreaser!!

Jimmy
The early 616 has two sensors in the head, one for the GPs and one for the water temp, maybe thats what you have there, the old GP sensor hole, thats been plugged.

What you need then would be a "tractor tug"

The Zebra had it coming.........

Inched a little closer this evening. This took way longer than it should have, but installed fuel lines and pre-filter. Somehow I managed to make that task last about an hour.
I installed the vac hose from pump to booster {been holding off so I wouldn't snap off a fitting}. I also installed a sender into the thermostat housing for the glow plug timer as per Chris' advice in this thread.

Now I need to make up a wire for that, and I need to secure the front AC line somehow. The mounting brackets for mounting/securing at both sides of engine are broken off.
I need to figure out how I am going to do the accelerator and cruise linkages and brackets. Certainly two conflicting styles there!
Need to fill radiator and block with some water {for now}, get some power steering fluid, oh, and a battery!
Is there anybody local that has a wholesale account with MB who could check on the price of a genuine MB battery? Autozone was $69 bucks for a group 49 that was 850/1000.
I hope to have China girl running this weekend. We'll see.......

Rolling right along with it! As long as the throttle arm coming off the pedal out of the firewall is identical, I would just take the complete linkage setup from the engine that had the cruise and use that. Im my case I had just used my origional 616 linkage on the 617, since I didnt have all of the stuff from the 617, and MB was thoughtful enough to locate everything in the same location between the 2 engines.

That is the problem. It is different at the firewall. 80's are different than 81 and later.......
There will be some merging.....
