The 240D works for my wife 98% of the time, starts/runs fine in the cold. Traction is the only problem. If there's snow on the roads she likes to use the POS jeep so she doesn't bend the 240D.

if you can find a cherry or nearly so, pre 82 sedan 300D, (unless she wants a wagon, then go pre 81) they are very peppy on short drives, the warm up to operating temp in less than 2 minutes, and are relatively cheap. only drawback to them is passing on freeway on hills between 60 and 75mph otherwise a flawless vehicle.

That's easy to say when you live in Rohnert Park. I used to live there in the "E" section (as well as Cotati). You ought to try a bike when its 12 degrees out with a 40mph wind.
