High Mileage Badges 88k

I was interested in buying an sd on craigslist but noticed a high mileage or some sort of badge on the grill of a car that had 88k miles.

Are there badges for other things besides mileage? I thought the first award was given at 155k.

How does one acquire the badge once the milage has been reached? I'm at 273k miles and would love something to show for it (other than rust, dull paint, and a crappy interior).

That is a custom badge of some sort. It does not look like the old brass high mileage badges.

Bidding strategy and detective work

David:

That car from the photos and the low mileage, looks REALLY beautiful.
The license plates are a California 2004-2005 issue, so maybe the car was from out of state, or had personalized plates given up, or the old ones were lost or damaged in a collision. But it shows very well, and for the blue dashboard not to have cracked by now is nothing less than a miracle, the car must have been in the garage all the time, and taken good care of.

Hopefully it has books and records with it. For a car that expensive ($6200 and rising) it should.....at the very least I would telephone the La Jolla shop
/Mercedes Service Center that took care of this car

http://www.trustmymechanic.com/dealer_links/4888.htm

and whose license plate frames are on the car, and ask them about the history and the condition of the car. This is going "outside the box" but I have done it several times, and been very lucky, in fact even getting the actual invoices that showed the work done on the car.

But with 11 hours and 36 bids on it there is HUGE interest, and it will go for all the money. The buyers are going wild for it.

If you want it, though, you'd better be ready to pay high, and probably you would need to set up an online auction
-sniper account that will put your bid in during the last 2-3 seconds automatically for you. Here's a typical one

http://www.auctionsniper.com/

I'm predicting that is what it will take in this case to win.

Good luck to you if you bid. There is a savage fight going on over this car.
A lot of people want it real bad.

(That might not be a high mileage badge on the car at all; grille badges for German states, Football and birding clubs, auto clubs and many other things on grille badges are popular in Europe, it could be anything. The advertised mileage on the car is probably correct, judging from the photos of the car...though I am not certain....)

You are eligible for the lst one (250KM or 155,000 miles) but not yet ready for the 500KM (312,000 miles) one.

Just take the application

http://www.mbusa.com/media/downloads/main/heritage/High_Mileage_Application.pdf

to your Mercedes dealer, and they will send it in, and Mercedes Benz will send you the badge, with a certificate.

That doesn't look like a mileage badge.

Nice car, looks really clean.

could be a european delivery badge

A nice set...

Throw these on and you're all set...:)

Still time, but he's unsure what the costs of shipping to the US would be. Smoke 'em if you've got 'em...

It's a beauty all right. Looks almost too good to be true. One of my dream cars slips by again while I'm broke :( It would be a tragedy to see someone get it and hack it up for a biofuel conversion.

After 41 bids and a real fight among 12 bidders it went
for $6400 in the last minutes of the auction.

High price for a W116, but someone got a nice car though.

iwrock 07-22-2007 06:14 PM

Thats a european delivery badge.

I have a couple of those from previously owned vehicles.

Dieseldoofus 07-22-2007 11:53 PM

Thank you very much, Jim! I figured they cost some serious scratch, but I guess not. After a crappy day replacing brake pads on stubborn calipers, that really makes my evening.

lietuviai 07-23-2007 12:00 AM

Surprising it didn't go for way more than that or is it that this model doesn't command the high prices the W123's do?
