Breather Hose Elbow Leak

On my 84 300D I have developed an oil leak at the connection between the breather hose elbow and the valve cover. Is this leak a common problem? I did a search on this and found that there are plenty of oil leak problems involving excess oil coming through the breather hose and into the air filter, but no mention of this specific connection. The elbow does not appear to be old, and is not cracked. I tightened the hose clamp, but this did not help. I wondered if by over tightening it, I created a crimp or gap in the connection and made the problem worse. I was also wondering if the problem has anything to do with me adding some 5W-30 oil when in a pinch I needed to top off the oil before a trip. This does not seem likely but who knows. Does anyone use some type of sealant of gasket material to make this connection tighter? I thought of an O ring but there is not really a good place for it. Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

Leak

My '85 did that when I first got it. Tightening the clamp worked for me. I would suggest cleaning both the aluminum tube that sticks up out of the valve cover and the inside of the rubber boot. Use alcohol to make sure you have removed all old oil. Inspect the boot for cracks, etc. You shouldn't need any sealer. If possible, try to find a wider clamp or use two clamps. Clamp it tightly and see what happens. You may have to buy a new boot. Adding a small amount of the wrong kind of oil shouldn't hurt anything, including the vent.

Alot of the plastic boots crack down the casting line on the inside edge.

There is an updated hose that is supposed to be much better.

Shouldn't an 84 already have the flat (single piece) breather hose?
