240D Steering Problem

Hi
This is my second post on this forum. My question is on my 240D's steering wheel. My steering wheel has too much bounce to it. When I am driving the wheel moves back and forth too much but the car doesn't move its just the wheel.
Thanks for the help

Broken tire belt? A little more information could help. At least describe the bounce. Just makes life easier. A broken belt can make the steering wheel move side to side a little on it's own at low speeds for example.

On the steering gearbox there is an allen key socket with a locknut. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjustment CCW about 1/$ turn at a time until the wheel gets about 1" freeplay.

Be careful, if its really worn and you adjust it too much, it can cause it to bind on tight turns.

Maybe this is a bump-steer problem, does it happen when you are hitting bumps in the road or what? If so could be an alignment issue.

Hi
I am having problems locating the adjustment on my steering gearbox. Can someone help me? My 240D is a 75 w115.
Thanks again

Dude, do us all a favor, and put the model and year in your signature. Most people here were probably assuming it was a w123.
