240D Steering Problem
Hi
This is my second post on this forum. My question is on my 240D's steering wheel. My steering wheel has too much bounce to it. When I am driving the wheel moves back and forth too much but the car doesn't move its just the wheel. Thanks for the help |
Broken tire belt? A little more information could help. At least describe the bounce. Just makes life easier. A broken belt can make the steering wheel move side to side a little on it's own at low speeds for example.

On the steering gearbox there is an allen key socket with a locknut. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjustment CCW about 1/$ turn at a time until the wheel gets about 1" freeplay.
Be careful, if its really worn and you adjust it too much, it can cause it to bind on tight turns. |
Maybe this is a bump-steer problem, does it happen when you are hitting bumps in the road or what? If so could be an alignment issue.

Hi
I am having problems locating the adjustment on my steering gearbox. Can someone help me? My 240D is a 75 w115. Thanks again |
Dude, do us all a favor, and put the model and year in your signature. Most people here were probably assuming it was a w123.
