W115 240D to 300D 4 Speed Manual - It's a go!

After 2 years of research I have a green light and am dropping off my W115's at the shop to have the 240D 4 speed converted to OM617.910 power with the 3.46 rear end with the 300D flywheel in the drivetrain.

I will post pictures of the progress since my car gets only one day or less a week priority.

The coolest project going on there is a W113 280SL with a worn motor that is undergoing a OM617.952 conversion. Sad to see a Pagoda altered like that but it is still interesting to see what becomes of it.

It's a nice "green" car which is coincindentally the goal of the vehicle. I don't think they're going to run it on WVO but perhaps a biodiesel convertible with some style.

I'll see if I can get some shots of the W111 Coupe with the OM617 power and the 5 speed manual too.

That's great news, Curtis! I look forward to seeing the progress.

I'm also curious about that SL conversion. How strange it would be to hear the familiar clickity-clack of a 617 and then turn to see an SL coming down the road!

I will definitely bring it to the meets. Perhaps it will be done in less than a month.

The SL has to be done by September so since my cars will be there I will try to make excuses to see the SL progress.

Thats cool, a SL with a 617, the 617`s should be in everything.
I will be coming down your way soon as metric Motors call me to pick up
the new engine.

Are you having an engine rebuilt by metric? How much did they charge?

The SL is in Gardena.

Sounds good Curtis, long time coming. Is that a none turbo eng with a turbo installed? or was it beefed up to handle the turbo?

Interesting set up with the turbo.
Is that the stock air filter? didn`t catch what the Mechanic was saying in the video.

I didn`t answer your question above, $6000.00 out the door.

Great news Curtis, Looks great and sounds very smooth once it warmed up a bit.

That was you in the video asking the questions? So you stopped by in LA and not even tell us! So are you going to drive back east?

It's a NA motor a 910. The first generation 617 becuase of the oil filter issue. The turbo is a Rajay model. It will be interesting to see how the motor does since it wasn't designed for a turbo but the guy who is doing the work has been driving his for 20 years.

Nope that wasn't me. It's a friend who has the 300TD now. I was in SF two months ago but not LA.

I am not sure at this point. If it passes its sea trials I am looking for someone who might be interested in a cross country trip.
