Simple W123 Cup Holder idea
 

It's working well for me. A great "in a minute honey, I'm working on the car" project. Also fits my requirments of simple, cheap, no special tools, fast, and effective.

1. Cheapest "hanger" type cup holder at auto zoo.
2. Take off the "hanger". Slide it down toward the bottom of the holder and squeeze it through.
3. Make some holes.
4. Locate your seat adjustment handle.
5. Wire tie that baby on there. Make sure you are high enough to not drag the carpet when moving the seat. My seat never really gets moved anyway.
6. All done......his and her's!

Try it, you'll like it.

I use a foam type plumbing sewer pipe seal, froma hardware store as a cup holder. It fits in the center consol, of any Mercedes, and fits a cup perfectly. Another thing I used, when I was in the tractor trailer, and at first in the Benz, in the same spot, is a roll of Duct tape. A new roll, will even stick itself wherever you put it on the carpet, and is pretty much impervious to spilling, or toppling over. Works for me, and can be out of sight in seconds if you want it to be. In the truck, it would stick to the floor, in the car, it would stick to the carpet, or the carpet piece inside the cneter consol, without damaging, or leaving any residue..

That's a great idea cgryphon! I've got a two holer that I wedge between the console and the passenger seat but it's not particularly stable and holds the cups at a slight angle which can be messy. I'm not even sure how it was intended to be installed.

This looks like a good solution for a coffee-holic like myself who rarely goes anywhere without a cup of joe. Plus it would put an end to those spills on the switch panel. I'm going to give it a go.

Too bad my driver's side handle is busted off.... That is the best w123 cupholder I've yet to see that didn't cost alot and/or take up the center console!

If your handles are broken like mine, you can buy them. I'm just a cheapskate.

the germans who think that driving shouldn't be distracted by things like drinking and cup holders are going to be quite upset when hearing about y'all's little bastardizations....:D


jk of course. you mean to tell me the cup holders inside the glove compartment aren't sufficient enough??:scream:

Had some issues with larger, heavier drinks wanting to tilt forward due to the slight angle of the seat adjustment handle. I wedged some pool noodle foam I had from another project ;) between the handle and the holder. Works great now, up to the large size Whataburger cup.

The thing I like best is the holder is not some obvious or clunky thing attached to the car. Pretty much hidden from view, but there when you need it.

Still working on the Jack Daniels solution, but it is fine for the 1L Tequila Cazadores Blanco (round bottle) or the new Carta Blanca "Caguamon". Warning: These have not been fully tested under emergency braking......:P

Not to shabby ,currently I use the upgraded 2 cup holder variety of that same brand ,it will sit in the center console abit losely and you can jettison your drink with a stiff apply of the brake .I like yours for its out of the way approach and if it spills ,an oh well ,location.I figure in the near future we will have an ice and soft drink dispenser ,the cup will be a perment reservoir underneath the cold beverage dispenser and a long stray will be your supply tube .Man ,I need to get this on American Inventors ,Pronto.:idea3:
