That, pawo, is the fan clutch doing its job..... Your's (like mine) is probably shot.....

Incorrect, my dear Watson.

The fan, if balanced, provides no radial force on the shaft with the exception of it's weight.

The only argument for a gyroscope is when you change the direction of travel of the vehicle while the fan is spinning. Since this rate of change is very small, the effect on the fan is minimal.

Ever listen to an overheating car in traffic? When they touch the throttle they just ROAR.. That's the fan clutch locking the fan to the water pump shaft at a 1:1 ratio vs. the slippage that happens most of the time.....

ok mine is working then.. my car roars somewhat when its at operating temp

I've forgotten when I'd hear that type of fan kick in. I haven't driven a car with a clutch for over a year. My 230CE has a magnetic type of fan coupler. I never know when it kicks on.
