Not really. We wanted it gone, but didn't want to send it to the crusher. It still had a lot of value in parts, but I was more interested in letting someone else either part out or use the car. Unfortunately, I don't have any more to offer. My '96 is still worth a lot more than that, but I don't want to part with it.

It was hit in July '05, two days after a garage fire killed an '85 Euro 300D and a '74 H-D motorcycle. Three vehicles in one week.

Well, the fire was electrical in origin, or at least we're pretty sure. There certainly was a 17 year old kid out to get us with the '83 though. He was crying that he was going to lose his license, being in a number of wrecks in the prior year.

Not only that, his insurance company offered $1000 for the car. Our insurance paid much more than that, and got it from his eventually. We even got the $500 deductible back. So it all came out OK, except that we were put in a position to buy two cars, when before it wasn't necessary. And I still haven't replaced the motorcycle.

But my girlfriend really likes the new Jetta TDI we got to replace the '83.

I was looking at this originally, but the fools on Ebay bid the car up so much. Thats not even worth $1250 in my opinion

Also, looking at this right now. I emailed the lday about it and she told me it was a diesel so Im trying to find out if its a 190D or a 190E

Hard to say about the first one. I'm not very familiar with the early 123's, but I think that one has the problematic and expensive clima relay in it. Also, the odometers are notoriously unreliable in 123's, so take any mileage claims with a huge grain of salt.

The second one was flagged, and is no longer online. If it's a diesel, it would have to be a 190D. I don't know much about the 201 either, but since you already emailed her, you can probably get a chance to check it out. It's pretty easy to spot the old diesels when looking under the hood (as I'm sure you know).

Lol. Just look for the big ol injector pump. (The lady listed it as a 190E though so thats what threw me off)
I still see the ad. When you click on the link and it takes you to CL, is St Louis CL selected or a different area?

Also saw this on ebay tonight. Only a day left though. And its kinda far away

From the add, that car currently has a broken timing chain, it may take $1000+ to get it running. Someone will probably buy it for the manual tranny. Personally, I would avoid cars from the rust belt.

You may be seeing a copy of the ad, cached in your browser. I checked it again, and still just see the message saying that it is flagged.

I get the idea that people flag ads because someone is selling a car that is more desirable than theirs, for a lower price.

About that eBay ad, I've only bid on one car on there. It was a 300TD (wagon) at a dealer in west county, and I had driven it before I bid. I would never bid on a car without driving it.

That car was pretty decent, but of course not perfect. I decided to bid 6K for it, but it sold for nearly 10. Well, good for them. I got my '96 for less.

Hello all,

I was trying to buy the 240D that was on craigslist near stl but also was never able to get an email to the seller.

He finally replied to me yesterday and said someone from this website and forum spammed his email account. He said it was someone with the name Zedd.

So I go to this forum and I see that he was right but I can't find Zedd. Does anyone know Zedd and if so, why did he clog the email.

I really wanted that car, and for $750 I couldn't have gone wrong.

He's claiming that his inbox was spammed to prevent anyone from buying the car. But this is just his word. It is just as likely that there never was a car.

I just went back to his email and read it again. I see you are the guy that did it.

Why did you spam his hotmail? I sent him 3 emails and he never replied until I received one from him yesterday saying it was sold and you spammed his email.

Can you give me an explanation?

Anita

go and read the now-closed posts on benzworld, as they are really informative, not to mention funny. that guy seems like a bit of a nut, so that car may not have even existed and i would bet not worth much if it did, unless you wanted to part it out.
