this is great, Honda is going to introduce a vehicle that get 62 or whatever MPG. after reading the comments on the site THE DON posted
this technology is already out there and being driven in other parts of the
world.
I remember when Dics brakes were the rage. It was like Detroit had just
discovered sliced bread. these things had been used in europe long ago
and also used on airplanes. It`s just marketing to get their hands deeper
in our pockets.
Mercedes had the first production Diesel in their cars. then Detroit tried
to get on the board with their wondeful diesel, the 350 etc...
but the train was moving too fast.
so now we go from 30mpg to 60mpg and think we are going to save money. If we are paying $3.00 a gallon now, don`t you think the oil co.
will double the cost to $6.00 to keep the profit margin in their already
overflowing bank accounts?
I think I`ll just keep driving my stinky old 300D for a while longer .

I'm a little skeptical about the mileage. Also I'd be very surprised if Honda approved of high biodiesel blends given the high injection pressures that are surely part of the design. Still, I'm definitely gonna check out the Honda diesel when it comes out. It might be a very worthy replacement of my TDI.

Let's hope their prediction that the Jeep and the GL-class being the last non-california cars are a little bit exaggerated... I'm all for the environment but diesels are supposed to smell good

I remember several years ago reading a statement from Honda that claimed that they would 'never launch a diesel in North America. I am glad that they retracted that statement.

Whether you like or dislike Honda they have always been good at making a high quality product that keeps customers returning. I believe that when Honda's diesel models arrive they will change the diesel mindset in this country. This will leave Ford and GM with their jaws hanging on the floor trying to figure out what to do. I believe that this is where DCX messed up in pushing off Chrysler. The PT Cruiser and Chrysler mini van are already sold in Europe with engines from an Italian company that is part M-B owned. I am certain that these engines would need changes to meet the US emissions, but they ready had the base product all packaged up.

Also, I saw an article about the new M-B C-Class. I agreed with the author for giving M-B the 'what-for' for not offering a diesel in this new body. M-B also needs to drop this big bling image in the US and sell the B-Class diesel here as well as offer the diesel in the SMARTCAR.

It frustrates me that a company with no prior diesel experience at all (Honda) believes that diesels are the next big step in fuel efficiency while a company with decades of diesel experience (DCX/M-B) does relatively little. If you don't think that Honda has a hope selling a diesel in the US consider this how many times has Honda done something new and failed?

Watch the hybrids die fast. Toyota may be in for a shock.

It boggles my mind ( not a difficult task ) that MB gave up on entry level diesels. Early on in their history in the US, the 190, 200, 220 and 240D were the lowest priced MBs in the line. Then they gravitated up to the S Cla$$ and now only in the E Class. It seems to me that someone oriented to the economy that a diesel offers would likewise be oriented to a le$$ expen$ive model as well. I would have thought that the C class would be a natural for the diesel. Oh well................. Ma Benz (thinks she) knows better.

BTW: I rode in a 220CDI in Israel a year ago and, let me tell ya, that sonofagun would flat RUN! Very snappy and un-diesel-like acceleration.

I won't buy one. Too many emissions controls choking it's potential.

I Imagine that you either will have to be a rocket scientist or maybe just have the tools of one availble to work on it. It will probably need an adjustment made for every 100 feet in altitude gained or maybe if the barometric pressure changes. Count me out.

I think that's a bunch of boloney. Like the rest of the newer diesels, this car should be nearly maintenance-free, i.e. nothing to adjust other than tire pressure and doing the occasional oil change. The question is, will all the new emission equipment work reliably. Skipping the first model year might be a good idea.

we have these fancy boxes now called ECU's and ECM's that do all of that ... they send like pulses of information down a copper wire to an actuator... pretty sci fi if you ask me

also.. go to your usercp and add that info about your cars into your signature

I have had to replace the ECU 5 times on my crx, I hope that Honda has come up with a more reliable one.
