Starting Problems on 85 300d

Hey Everyone, its been a while since i am on here trying to help out, but i got a problem now, on my benz when i go to start it sometimes id turn the key, wait, then sometimes the key will turnover to start it and sometimes i have to go turn it off again turn in on and off and on to try to start the car becuase the key wont turn over for the job in starting the car up. one time i had to wait for 30 minutes just trying and trying for it to start but all it would do is lock up and i would have to turn the key off, take it out and try again, what is going on, i think i might need a new starter with a new set of keys.

Try jumping the terminals in the junction box on the right fender when the starter fails to engage. If it engages with the box, it's an indication that there is probably a problem in the key switch. There's a thread here somewhere in which a member reports dirty contacts in the switch. I found that sometimes when this occurs, simply holding the key in the start position for a number of seconds (10-30 seconds) will cause the starter to engage.
Could also be other things, but this is a good place to start.

If I read your post correctly, you'd better replace you ignition tumbler before it's too late. Be proactive, you thank yourself later.

I misunderstood the original post. I'm with Matt. Get the key switch replaced ASAP.
