Yep commen 603 problem, you got lucky! Usualy when the pump goes it takes the timing chain and engine with it.


REPLACE THOSE OLD STYLE VACUUM PUMPS 603 OWNERS!!!

Actually it had the new style pump installed but a ballbearing from old pump that was floating around for years that was the culprit. It had to be there for more than 4 years that is when I bought the car.

Just curious.. how'd you figure this out? Tow it to the indy and let him diagnose, or did you drop the pan or something?

I would have come to that conclusion probably, if I knew the engine had partially come apart at some time in the past. I've seen what a vac pump can do to a 603, I was just searching for a picture I have on the hard drive somwhere, its ugly!
