ACC Question..

Hey everyone,

I did do a search on this one..but all the results seem to be about problems much more severe...

I just got this 82' 300SD im working on and when I use the ACC..its extremely slow to action...as far as i can tell all the various functions work..but it just takes 3-5 minutes to actually do supply the demanded function...

I'm no expert on this stuff so anyone got any ideas?

-Kris

Watch the fresh air flap behind the glove compartment (on W123 atleast). I bet that is the slowness.

well i checked it out..the flap moves at a snails pace...however that doesnt appear to be the only problem..i tested the acc in all the different modes and it would appear the center vents and lower outer vents are stuck open and in cold mode the for all functions except the DEFROST...all modes take atleast 30 seconds to kick in except defrost...when I hit the defrost button...everything kicks in immediately.

So, it would appear that the ACC control itself is the culprit. I am going to remove it and look at the board see if there is anything that can be worked on or resoldered...maybe i'll swap out the other (working) SD's and give that a test..or should i not do that?

thanks

OK..so i've removed the ACC and dismantled it..

It would appear that something happend to this poor thing as you can see the circuit pathways on the top board are all bubbled. Even on the side input/output boards they are bubbled too.

The pics from the side were burry so Im not going to waste time posting.

Here is a pic of the back, it looks ok...

Forget about trying to fix those CCU's. You'll be at that game for years. They never quite get to what you need.

A rebuilt unit that's got a three year guarantee is the way to go.

What's your time worth?

Don't fully know yet.........the vehicle still sits........waiting for me to get the a/c checked out.

The other two are terrific..........both of them work flawlessly. But, neither is a rebuild.........so........it's just a matter of time..........

Well at least you got that knocked out.

I swear, some day I'll rebuild the A/C in the 300SD... I've been soaking up all the cold air from my 750iL as of late.

I would do a complete vacuum element check. If the flaps are actually moving. But doing it very slowly then a slight leak of a line or an element, could be causing the slow reaction.
