I would love it. I just wish I could find a Euro 5 speed manual for it

We are not talking the space shuttle here. If the frame feels too flexible you add some steel. Those domestic pickups are flexi flyers to begin with in that era. Chassis stiffness was unheard of.

Personally, I'd like to see some more of these conversions. Now I don't like to see any Mercedes being cut up for this type of thing, unless it is a write off and the organ is sitting there to be donated. I have a 116 with a spring on the driver's side actually lifting the floor panel. I need the tranny, but not the engine, so it might become a project for something like this, preferably a jeep.

As for the build-up...I probably won't be doing the fanciest wiring job in a million years, and it's not going to be worth a lot of money - to some people.

Now, the Mercedes jeep on the website here, complete and working, is worth about $8000 to me....for the same gasser, I'd pay no more than $3500. A Jeep guy who is into dropping V8's into his jeep will look at it and think it's worthless.

For someone who likes the Mercedes powerplant but doesn't limit themselves to that one make of vehicle, this opens up lots of possibilities.

I'm really not a fan of the C-channel welded to the driveshaft(?), but since I don't know how to do a swap like this, I won't judge it. I wish I did, because I daydream about transplanting my 300TD's engine into a pickup, or stripping it down to the frame and putting a pickup body on top. Ambition far outstrips skill/ability/tools+shop though.

This guy's project is impressive, even if it's not 'professional' looking.

If you are gonna use this venerable powerplant and driveline, do you really want to waste your time putting it in a Dodge!?!?
I've been screaming that at my laptop: "It's a Dodge"!!!

I hate american stuff

I agree. I personally hate american cars.(even though I just bought a 6.5 liter chevy dually). Anyways. my friend is getting ready to convert a late 90's dodge dakota (newer body style) with a turbo diesel 300d. That will be the second gen of this original conversion. This orginal truck was more to see if everything will work out ok. It works great!! anyways I would opt for a 4x4 toyota tacoma crew cab late 90's with a 85 300d with 150,000 or less on the engine. I will do this by the way...

anyways back to my original post..
Who wouldn't want a mercedes diesel pickup truck?

-jon
I just bought a 97 6.5 crew cab dually 5 speed with 30,000 on the engine for a total of 1600. I was thinking of repainting it and selling it for 6 or 7 and doing this whole 300d thing right.. But than again, my veggie conversion interest will use this 6.5 just fine. I want to start a business hauling stuff or something where my main overhead is diesel consumption, then run my truck off veggie. my friend burns through 20g's of diesel a year for his business. Why the heck would you not want to run veggie in this situation?

p.p.s. I have a friend in n.c. who has access to virgin oil for $1.00 a gallon. Come on guys...
blessings,.
jon

In response to the original title.

How long has it been for sale now?
Aparently there are people out there that wouldn't want it. Maybe the people that do, are just too busy, who knows, but at 3000$ you could get a 300D, with a 300D engine in it. Older mopar stuff is scrap metal, and the engines worth about 800-1000$ tops, so I'd say 1500$ should be a good price cap.
Good luck with the hard sell, hope your getting commision at the rate your pushing this thing.

yeh..

Yeh,
I know it will sell. Either way I could care less. The banter sure is fun with some of these guys. I got my 84 300d from Sam with 135,000 original, no rust and he sold it to me for 1800. I owe him either way. Read my previous post about what he sold my truck to me for. He's my friend and he rocks.

I'm waiting on my 6.5 to get painted and he's just letting me borrow this truck to drive in the meantime. Who does that sort of thing nowadays?

I'm guessing the trouble of re-titling the fuel type of the vehicle to diesel has not been done yet. IMO if that were done it would be worth significantly more to a buyer in a tough inspection state.
