I haven't seen an auction from Herb in along time. He sure finds some interesting cars.

Every time I see one for sale I'm tempted. All I would need is infinite time, space, and money to have all the toys I want (Actually, any 2 of the 3 would probably work).

LOL, did you read the part where he estimated it would take about $50K to make it correct?

LOL, but he did describe the condition as "decent." I wonder what it will sell for?

It was $16k in 72, and now up to $17.6k w/ 14 bids and only 8 days to go. as clean looking as it is they will go nuts towards the end, bidding
like a shark feeding frenzy. but then you know that DNA is worth something .
How do explain rust benieth the paint as surrface rust? there is a good rust spot above the VIN plate. think they could have detailed up the plate along with the engine. I noticed the chrome pitted around the head lights.

that front end would look good on my 123. HMMMM
notice the arm rest on the drivers door? why don`t they put them on the
123 drivers door instead of that goofy one they put on?

I have heard about this seller, he has a wonderful reputation, and is very honest. Based on his descriptions, you could probably bid sight unseen and be pretty safe.

He is being very honest about that, as the car does need lots of attention, to all the rubber seals and gaskets, and possibly the air suspension also.

These cars are extremely expensive to maintain, and owning
one of them would be like having a pack of rabid wolves at your wallet.

But, they were a super fast hotrod sedan, top of the Mercedes line, and an elegant classic from new. A good one still looks stunning today.

OTOH, it could be made to showroom condition again, and if that happened, it could possibly bring the $250,000 at Barrett-Jackson.

The Steve McQueen provenance (the registration cards say all, and the original plate # 002-FZO was an original issue 1972 California blue plate number out of Los Angeles.) make it a one of a kind celebrity car, PLUS its being a end of run 1972 euro car make it ultra rare, one-of-a-kind.
No books and records on it, but it probably was sold new at either MB of Hollywood, Mercedes Benz of Beverly Hills or W.I. Simonson MB in Santa Monica, I would guess. Probably the books and records are gone by now.

Very Covetable.

That would look awesome next to the 6.9. But TWO celebrity cars is a bit much However it is Steve McQueen...

I'd rather have John Voight's Chrysler LeBaron.
