W126 rear rotor removal??

I can't find anything in the archives here nor on the FSM discs, aside from the obvious (caliper removal, tire off!) how does the disc come off? There is that hex bolt if I recall then what? Just beat on it w/ a BFH?

That's what I understand, make sure the parking brake is off. Over the years it may try to become one with the hub.

Don't bother the bolt in the center of the hub. The washer there is one-time use only, and it has nothing to do with the rotor.

A while back, there was a poor chap on the forum who had been trying to beat his rear rotors off with a sledge hammer. For a month!!! He was ready to have his car towed to a shop. Until it was suggested that he disengage the parking brake.

If they look rusted, soak the flange of the hub where the rotor contacts for a few minutes with PB Blaster or suitable penetrating oil then smack it from behind with your BFH and it should pop right off. You may have to rotate it and smack from 2 or 3 places but it should be fairly easy....and yes make sure the parking brake is off.

If you're going to reuse the rotor, smack between lug holes on the wheel mounting surface. Otherwise smack the back side brake surface. Alternate across a diameter as mentioned.

If you get some movement but it won't come off, turn a lug hole to 45* between vertical and direction of forward travel. That should get the park brake star wheel in position for adjustment. Turn the star wheel as far as it will go in the 'loose' direction.
