uhh.. I got a Phobia about parking a DIESEL or Gas car in my Garage..
 

...You see uhhh I know about them.
Everyday I watch my fellow neighbors pull out in the morning, remote control their doors shut and and pull in in the evening, repeating the same process, parking bringing with them this huge flammable monster with metal surfaces still at 400 degrees F, 25 gallons of 98 Octane Super Unleaded and yards of wire stuffed together in plastic conectors waiting to short..They are virtually parking it next to their nice wife dressed in the latest designer Dress watching TV on the Couch and underneath their comfy King sized Bed and Jacuzzi 'cause all that seperates them and the car is 1/4" drywall!

Even Honda in 2005 put out this model with the oil filter above the exhaust pipe so that when you went to Jiffy Lube over the years, a puddle of oil would build up on the edge of the lower engine block and suddenly your brand new monument to consumer excellence in spending, a so called "Best Buy " as rated byu Consumer Reports, your pride and joy, is uhhh in FLAMES in your nice suburban castle..

I can just imagine the scenario..
"Honey, ya smell anything"
"Nope"
"Then why is the smoke detector shreiking?"
"Not me, sweetie, we've been eating out all week. Havent used the oven since last month"
"Alright, anyway, I got to get my Laundry from the Honda"
...He goes to the garage and opens the door. Uhh his engine compartment is in Flames...
He closes the door in incredulous disbelief...
"Uhh sweetie? You know the car...its uhh on Fire"
"Yours or mine?"
"Uhh I think its yours, I drive the big SUV"
"Fine sweetie, I guess I'll be using the SUV tomorrow."

Seriously I know what holds cars together. Rusted fuel clamps and plastic clips and leaky fuel pumps and seriously I do very good professional work. I cant imagine what some dealer mechanic harassed and stressed as hell is going to do when he has 20 minutes to do your fuel filter..

My TOOLS go in the garage, the cars stay out!!!

To each their own. Insurance companies like it when you lock up you car in a garage. Having said that, my homeowners ins. is lower because I have a detached garage, of which I've added more coverage. Both of mine reside there when I'm home, every car I have owned has done the same, no problems yet. I know, I know there's always a first time.

Sounds like you moved to wrong part of WA. You needed to move down to the Vancouver area of SW WA. You can easily find what you mention for less than half that here.

OK, so for much less than a million dollars you can move up to Whatcom County (think Canada, because we are so close). You can buy 5, yes 5 acres and have a huge garage. A friend of mine is putting up a steel building right now. I'm trying to convince him, that he needs a lift.

On a side note, if you burn Biodiesel you won't have to worry as much about the fire hazard. Yes I know it's your neighbors you are worried about. The nice thing about Washington is they put the furnace and water heater in the garage so you have a nice ignition source. :D

a diesel is much much less of a fire hazard than a gasser.

pull that benz in there and forget about it.

outside of a diesel engine it is about impossible to ignite diesel fuel.

gas though is a whole 'nother matter.

I sadly usually worry more about the car burning itself down, that any house I've lived in rescently. To me the cars harder to rebuild than a garage would be.

I actually like having an attached garage. I can go in it anytime night or day. I also like not having to go outside in bad weather to get into a garage.
The thing is to think safety first and not keep combustibles near potential flame/ignition sources.

I don't like gasoline in the garage.

uhhh I'm averaging about 2 fires a year
 

Seriously when i did my engine/tranny overhaul i also dropped in a new used instrument cluster at the same time..which had a short in it .....that was a heart breaker--your engine is brand new, so is your tranny, but uhhh your dashboard looks like its melted and to boot, the FPD sank about 100 gallons of water on your dash

If you're that paranoid, make your attached garage out of concrete or blockwall + a metal door going in, then fire can't get out of the garage. ;)

I have no fear at all parking a diesel car in the garage. You're more likely to have the house catch fire from a meteor impact or lightning. :dizzy2:

Gassers....I just don't like them period. :D So nothing to worry about there.;)

and, it's 5/8" drywall, not 1/4", and usually it's 2 layers, for a 2 hour fire rating...usually.

How many garage fires have you seen lately?
