oil pan gasket help!
i would bet money it has never been changed since the factory, i got a new 1 from MB
when i look at both, the old factory gasket looks 2x as thick and almost like it was made with some metal in it NOT just a cork gasket i got now my question do i use the old, new or both?

I would say use the new gasket. Mercedes often upgrades repair parts over the years, and so the difference is unremarkable. I would just make sure that all surfaces are clean. Unless the manual say to use a sealer, don't use one, just make sure the pan is bolted according to specs, by finger-tightening them and then tightening them with a wrench alternately, as it says in the manual.
After you have it on, check carefully for leaks.

there is a deep imprint all around the pan lip, that may by why you have to tighten it 3 times, so it makes the deep imprint and a stronger seal

it was not cork, but quite thick. We are not talking "upper" pan, ok, I knew that, just making sure

Be careful not to bend the pan when tightening the bolts.
I recently replaced my gasket, and had to scrape quite a bit to get the old one off. No sealant.

Cork? I have never seen a cork gasket for oil pan. I would not use it.

I would think a wee tiny amount of blue RTV wouldn't hurt and would be a whole lot easier. Last one I did must have been a couple years ago and I dont think it was cork.
