1985 300D cruise control
My cruise control will work on days when it is really hot outside. On cooler days or in the mornings it doesn't work. What component in the system would react to heat and function normally. Larry

Sounds like a loose or broken connection somewhere. Heat from the engine causes the bad connection to expand and remake the connection.
At least your's semi works. Mine does not.

Hot flash
Another possibility is the electronic "amplifier" that lives in an aluminum box under the driver's side of the dash. It's full of electronic components that can be heat sensitive and the printed circuit "wiring" itself has a tendency (in these vintage vehicles) to develop cracks in the soldered connections between the board and the components.
If you can't trace the problem to something else, you can resolder every connection on the board or replace it with a rebuilt for about $200. I have put two boards back in commission by resoldering them. Jeremy
