Speedo on project 10 mph slow...
I have an 83 240D chasis with a 617 engine from a 84 300SD, a 4 speed manual tranny from a 83 240D and a 2.88 rear from a 300D turbo. My speedo is approximately 10 mph slower than my actual speed. Do I need a speedo to match the rear (83 300DT), or something else, or a mulitude of things, to make it right? :freak:

You will need the speedo from an '85 300D. '85 is when they ran the 2.88 rear.

Well, that's not so bad.
Thanks for that info. |
Only the speedo/odo needs to be changed when the rear ratio changes.
How is the 2.88 working out? Does it take much slipping to accelerate from a standstill? |
It rolls right out. Feels almost like I could start off in 2nd, though I haven't tried it yet. I also don't a have a tach to tell what I'm turning at cruising speed. If I were smarter, or when I get the time, I plan to try and figure it out, or install a tach.
Do you know if it's possible to install an aftermarket tach of some sort. Of course, if I find an 85 cluster I could use the original I guess. I've also heard that a 307 rear is best for MPG. |
Relabel your speedo 10mph faster :freak:
