'87 603 Turbo problem.

I lost all my turbo power today and finally found the problem. There is a little "rod" that connects to a small lever just under the exhaust manifold. The "clip" that holds the rod onto that lever evidently decided it would rather stay somewhere else because it's gone and the rod has come off of the lever. What is the lever and rod and is this a common problem with these turbos? I have tried to put the "rod" back on the lever but I haven't been too successful yet.

Now I have a name for this thingamabob...

I "stumbled" across the correct terminology for the "rod" and the "lever". I now know that they are called the wastegate lever and the actuator rod. I searched a little more and found out that you can't just put that rod back on the lever because of a very stiff spring that is supposed to keep the wastegate closed against the flow of exhaust.

My ouestion is this. Is there a way to apply pressure to this actuator so it will extend enough to slip it back onto the wastegate lever? I really would like to get this puppy fixed.

Last night this thing was working like a charm and then all of a sudden she lost all boost and today I found the wastegate lever detached from the actuator rod.

you can aply pressure to the hose that is attached with low pressure compressed air, to extend the "rod" and slip it back over the waste gate valve "stem"

I tried and tried that but...

the spring in the actuator is very, very, very, very stiff. I applied low air pressure to the actuator via the crossover hose and viola!, the rod is now reconnected and power has been restored!

Thats great Kevin. I'm glad you got it back together. What did you use to secure the shaft to the valve actuater?

Well...

I didn't secure it yet. I haven't been driving it for the past two days. I have been sick Everybody pity me

Anyway, I did manage enough strength to reattach the actuator rod. I was too sick to work but not too sick to take care of the important stuff.
