Any ideas on fixing this one?? Weird AC issues...

1982 300TD....

So I was cruising down the road with the AC on, when the cabin was suddenly filled with the smell of burning copper. It smelled like an electric motor burning up. So before I could react, the AC quit. All at once, all together. Now when I press any of the climate control buttons, I get nothing. No blower, and the compressor does not turn on.

Where should I start on fixing this? I tried searching the forums but it didn't turn out any helpful results. Seems like an unusual problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated. The 100 degree days here in Houston lately are killer!

water pump siezed and took out your climate controller.

I think!

Jump your electric water pump and see if it runs.

when you fix it solder in a 1 amp fuse to protect your controller

The electric water pump is near the firewall. Look for the Monovalve (cylinder shaped thing with three hoses and two wires) follow the bottom hose and you will find the electric water pump. Jump it to 12v and see if it runs. if not, then it failed and probably took out the pushbutton unit in the dash.

Do some searches here and read how to re solder the unit to get it to work again. You can also buy a used one for around $50 or a rebuilt one for around $125 (I think)

I recently replaced the pushbutton unit on the dash. I tried hooking up my old one, and it didn't work either. Isn't there a climate "brain" just behind the glovebox???

I second the fuse. They are notorious for that circuit melting fuses and the fix is to bypass the fuse box for that circuit and put an inline fuse in.
