I finally got my diesel running today...sort of...

Today I got my diesel engine running. I recently picked up a low mile 617 turbo diesel engine. It came out of an 84 300D that had only 144K on it. I was told it was running and it had been tested before buying it. I was still skeptical so I didn't even unload it from the back of my truck when I got it home.
Today I got around to hooking up a starter and battery to it. Poured in some fresh oil, changed the filter and hooked up the oil cooler. I got a fuel container with diesel and put the fuel lines in it. I hooked up a battery charger to the glow plug harness and let it "glow" a little.
I connected my remote starter and after a few cranks the engine came to life.
It idled nicely and I was surprised that the bare engine was not that loud.
I now feel confident about installing it in my 84 300D.
Now I hope the tranny I have is OK.
I have video of the engine running so I as soon as I figure out how to post it somewhere, I'll have a link to share.

Congrats!

Leave it in the back of the truck and put a propeller on it!

Thanks Jeremy.
Hmm, a MB diesel powered airplane. Now that would be ambitious.

That's impressive DJ. When it's done you'll have an excellent 300D, which is a really great car to own. You really rescued that car.

Yes this should be a very good car when it's finished. I feel good that I rescued this car since it was for sale as a parts car. It just looked to good to let it suffer such a fate.
