Sold the C230-kept the 300SD
I sold my 1998 C230 three weeks ago.
What’s the big deal? Nothing, except that it makes my 1981 300SD my daily driver. Some people think I am nuts to favor a 26 year car over a more modern vehicle but the truth of the matter is that in the two and a half years I have owned the 300SD I have driven it 50 thousand miles and have put two thousand on the C230. The SD has taken me on road trips as far west as Palm Desert, CA and as far east as Belfast, Maine. A guy at work offered me affair price for the C230 and after realizing that it was just taking up space and depreciating, I sold it to him. In all fairness the C230 was a great car. I put over 100,000 miles on it in the six and a half years I owned it but just did not drive it any more. Have any you guys/gals favored an older generation vehicle over a newer one?

Me too
Bought the '85 M-B, intending to sell the '89 Olds. Instead, wife took the Olds, drove it for half a year, then we got her the '87 M-B. Six months later, sold the Olds. Incidentally, the '89 Olds was the newest car we have ever owned. We inherited it in 1997 from my Mother. Wife's '69 Beetle was bought new, all of our other cars have been used.

not really, i sold my older 83 300SD for a 96 S420......but then sold the S420 for a 02 jetta.
Regret getting rid of the S420 every damn day, most reliable benz out of them all and still delivered better MPG's then my dads 78.

You should still get an E500/500E like you wanted in the first place, Ruben.

My case might be the most extreme here. About 5 years ago I sold my $50,000+ '02 Corvette Z06 because I didn't like it as much as a $1000 '82 300D that I found locally. But I have gone in the other direction as well. For example, recently I sold my '83 240D which was my oldest vehicle. Age doesn't matter as much as what you like. The new stuff isn't always the best to say the least.

Bought a new (about $40k) 2001 Volvo C70 HPT turbo coupe, to replace the old '91 Volvo 740.
It was a good thing the Volvo was't traded in Never mind the awful torque steer in the new FWD Volvo. It was such a lemon, in the dealer almost all the time for problems - that finally we simply stored the car, hired a Lemon Law Attorney and got the new car bought back (and purchase price refunded) by Volvo NA, and kept the old Volvo - put it back to work. Finally the '91 Volvo was eventually replaced by an appliance car - new Honda Accord. I still miss the old Volvo. The only good thing I really like about new cars is the "New Car Smell" and I am not interested in new cars very much.

Not really. Sold a 93 Camry four years ago for the SDL. Now I'm wanting something newer. Old cars are great when you have the time to work on them.

It's good to have at least 2 cars, especially when one or both are old. That way you can take your time repairing one while you drive the other.

Yup, I always want the oldest car I can afford.
I am no longer interested in owning anything new enough to have a check engine light. |

OLD Had a 1989 Taurus, 1989 Tempo and 1990 Taurus (ex wife liked Fords) NEW what was I thinking getting a 1989 Tempo It lasted 2 years and 20k miles Sold the Tempo for a 1992 Subaru wagon NEW gave the Tauri away to family Sold the GTO and bought a 1972 Buick GS convertible OLD Bought a 1996 Impala SS in 1999 and a 1957 Nomad (supposedly this one was for the wife, but she hated it. got her a 2000 Outback instead) NEW and OLD Lost all of them in the divorce, well I got to keep the '92 Subbie 'cause it had over 181k miles on her. Now own 1981 300SD OLD 1984 BMW 528e OLD 1974 Jeep CJ5 Real OLD 1999 Suburban (bought in 2003) hmmm I guess I am not happy unless I have something old to play with Carbs and points are a plus, but I also have had fairly new cars. Although the last new car I bought was the 2000 Outback...
