Smile Flight of the Pheonix!

Hello to all!Well, I finally finished my 240D engine swap. I started this project back in March when I bought a '79 240D with decent body and interior but with a blown head gasket and a '80 240D with a all sorts of brake, electrical, and vacuum problems but with a nice running engine. I have been working on & off over the last 5 months pulling both engines, cleaning everything, replacing all of the gaskets, filter, thermostat etc., adjusting valves and injector timings on the good engine and fixing all of the little things on the '79. I have finally got the '80 engine back in the '79 and IT ACTUALLY RUNS!I turned the engine over a few times with the nuts from the injector lines to the injectors loosened to clear any air out, tightened them up and then got in the car with the key in hand, put the key in the ignition turned, let the glow plug light go off and turned it full right. Bango! It started after a couple of cranks and idled smooth as silk(for a diesel anyway). I felt like Jimmy Stewart in "Flight of the Pheonix" when he coaxed that big Pratt & Whitney to life after they built a plane from the wreckage in the desert.I would like to thank all of the individuals who contribute to this board as well as the sponsors of mercedesshop. I have not posted for a while but have been monitoring the board and searching topics to work through the process of the engine swap. I have definitly learned a lot more here than I could have throught any other resource. I also received a lot of help from Phil & Roy who were very patient and Emailed me all kinds of diagrams to help me find the parts I needed. I really recommend buying parts from Mercedesshop. You can get some things cheaper on eBay but you can not get the service.Best regards
