Is 'nailing' a universal diesel term?
I brought back an injector today to my reputable Bosch FI shop (DW Diesel in Auburn MA - they have several locations in the NE and MW).
I told the tech that the injector was nailing. He looked dumbfounded and said 'what's that?'. He called it knocking, which I thought was a gasser term.. He asked two other techs and they had not heard of 'nailing' either. It seems to be a universal term here at MShop Diesel Discussion...should I be surprised my local Bosch techs don't use the term? dd

I've run diesel powered commercial boats most of my adult life and never heard the term "nailing", (not in reference to engine noise, anyway) but maybe the engineers down in the engine room talked about such things
