Headrest Removal
1980 300TD
Anyone know how to remove the headrest on this model. Slides up so high and stops. Can't see anything to push or pull to unlock... |
There's a button under the upholstery that needs to be pressed. Feel around in the vicinity of where the metal rods go into the seat and you should find it.

Spoke too soon
could not feel any buttom around the round trim...... :o

On the back of the seat behind the upholstery. One of the metal rods of the headrest has a notch cut into it (in the seat, it's not visible). This notch is captured by a spring loaded catch which has to be released.

If you have the owner's manual, there is a diagram that show where to push this button.
|
Start at the lower back of the seat as if you were running your hand up the backside of a woman's leg from the knee. Let your fingers sense the subtle changes and before your hand reaches the gentle curve of the buttocks, you should be able to sense a small bulge in the seat back. Push. (From the owner's manual)

The front headrests have a button around 6-8 inches below the top edge of the seatback, on the backside of the seat, right along the left mounting bracket just feel for it. It should be on the "board" just beneath the curve of the upholstery.
The rear headrests for the wagon, I think, have a similar button on the rear portion not sure where, I read it somewhere in this forum a few days/weeks ago. |

The rear seats' button is about 7inches down on the back (carpeted). It's just a black rubbery circle. |

Maybe for a Ferrari, Maserati or Citroen, but not a Mercedes :) Kevin 1979 240D manual |

muchos gracias todos amigos... |
Usually you can see the little button on the back of the seats. Its about the size of a dime. Lift and push....out it comes. :) I did it once just to try it out. ;)
