Need motor mounts in 300d
How big of a job is it? Is this something better left to an Indy? I need all 3, He gave me a price of $330.00, should I just let him do it?

started but stopped
Jack,
I started to change the motor mounts on my coupe... I couldn't get the car up very high on jacks, so didn't have much room underneath car to work. I think if you had access to a lift, or better set up, it wouldn't be a difficult job, it seems like it would just take awhile to get to all the bolts, and put them back in after you change. It seems like 1 hour of labor would be requried... anyone agree?? I might try to put it on ramps to get underneath, and then, put it down with a jack/ piece of wood on the oil housing to jack up the engine... some other weekend project...

I just did the motor mounts on my 82 300D last week. I took my time and did lots of cleaning and it took me 3 hours by myself. I did need a friend to help lower the engine onto the new mounts while I made sure everything was lined up. I sprayed the bolts with PB Blaster for a few days before the project to prevent any problems. I would not pay someone to do this if you have ramps, jack, and a basic metric tool set--it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be other than getting covered in soot (cleaned up some old leaks under there). Good luck and dieselgiant has a nice pictorial on how it is done on his site.

This is not a hard job
The best way to approach the job is to make sure that you have the proper things to lift both the car and the engine. I used a set of heavy duty ramps, they are taller than the normal ones, and my floor jack. put the car up on the ramps and remove the bolts from the mounts. then use the jack(with a piece of 2x4 to push the engine up off the mounts. the hardest thing was getting the engine to drop onto the new mounts. It took me maybe three tries working alone. The job takes a couple maybe three hours.
Oh, make sure you replace the engine shocks at the same time. It is easy doing it as part of the mounts and makes a huge difference.
