124 shifter bulb - double check
Just a quick check that I just installed the right bulb in my shifter on the 87 300D ... 12V 1.2 W clear bulb #072601 012230 ... got it from the dealership. Only reason I ask is that the bulb that came OUT was fogged (with no # or W stamped on it) ... the new bulb is clear. Just want to make sure I don't have too high a wattage in there. Did my search but couldn't find an exact spec for the '87 124. Thanks.

I've noticed those same frosted bulbs are in the dash-vents. I don't know if they still make/sell them but will be finding out soon.

Here's an answer to my own question: The AllData CD does include a sheet indicating that the original bulb (a .4 watt) should be replaced with a 1.2 watt bulb to correct overly dim lighting. So my guess would be the new bulb is the standard retrofit over the fogged, lower-wattage bulb. Fine with me. It's SUPER bright at night now. A little hard to get used to, but better than what it was before I put the bulb in: totally blacked out.
