Aftermarket Alternator for `87 300SDL

Greetings MS --

Are there any options for installing larger capacity alternators on an `87 300SDL? I have two deep cycle batteries and some computer & stereo gear I power and I'm wondering if theres any options for a bigger alternator that can be installed to power all this equipment.

Might want to do a search.

I bought a 90a Bosch for my 87 300D, bolts right in, just ran a heavier wire. Came out of a '93 190E.

The search should turn up a thread where a later-model higher output alternator and some SAAB alternators will fit.

I am using aftermarket alternator ever since but i never encounter some installing of large capacity of this or even try to do that kind of project.

Do a search with AL129X. It's a 115 amp alternator that should fit.

X2. Plenty of info on the 115 amp AL-129-X alternator. the 87 - 90 Saabs plus or minus on the years, have the 115 alt. It is usually down low on the right side, accessable from behind the R/F wheel behind the splash shield. and withe the side wise engine. (if you are pulling one from the junk yards)

... or pull one from a W140 that is gas powered. I have one on my SDL that puts out 143A.

Same. Got one from a S600. Swapped the pulley out with an impact wrench. Bought it at a scrapper for $85. I think it came from potomac german parts.
I had the change the wiring for it and used 0 guage welding wire. had to do a bit of fabbing, and pull out the air filter box, and the reg air box.... Had to create a new wire for the excite field as well...
