Oil extractor Model/Brand recommendation needed.
Hello All,
I want to purchase an oil extractor because my VW Passat TDI has a PITA belly pan that I have to remove in order to get the the drain plug to change my oil. I don't want to have the hassle of removing the belly pan each time I do it. I found this model at Harbor Frieght. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=46149 Has anybody used this before? Or if you have any other brand and model recommendations that would be great. In addition to using it for my Passat and would like to possibly use it for my 300D which is using much the thicker 15w40 oil, so it will have to strong enough to extract it out. Thanks

I have used the Pela 6000 to change the oil on my 96 E300d, and it worked like a charm. No problems at all, and is easy to handle.

I like the mityvac.
http://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-7201-Fluid-Evacuator-Plus/dp/B0002SR7TC/ref=sr_1_1/105-9850122-9106020?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1187311648&sr=8-1 I used a Topsider for years until the pump finally broke. You can find them at most boat stores. But that one from Harbor Freight looks pretty cool. |

I have used the TopSider for years and have never had a problem. The thing I like is it holds 10 qt's and you can take the pump handle off for storage or transport to dump site without the need to put the oil in another container.
