another hit and run....scoundrels

Just want to blow off a little steam...
Got up to go for a nice Sunday drive, and find that someone biffed my coupe, smashing the front right directional assembly. No note, nothing. Did some metal damage, not too bad, but what a bummer. I will be able to see the damage forever.
Why do people do that? Everyone makes mistakes, but I couldn't sleep at night hurting someones car then just taking off. A simple note would have made a world of difference. Just a bit of thought would suffice. Even a "I have no money, but apologies it happened" would at least show someone was sorry for hitting me.
The no-note thing implies that the perpetrator just couldn't care less. Couldn't even spare a moment of time. Or worse, backed into me and didn't even look. Second time now, similiar thing happened a while back when someone hit my door handle. I have had the car for 5 years now and somehow have managed to not hit a darn thing. Doggone it.

I guess it could be worse. Paint has chipped; car was repainted and I found some bondo there. Getting the metal back I expect more paint loss. At least it is repairable. The light assembly is shot completely.

2 questions: Does anyone know if that assembly is the same for the 4 door as the coupe? and, Does anyone have an extra they could sell me?

Anyway, I know y'all love your Benz the way I do, so thanks for listening.

I really hate a hit and run too.

But a few years ago we were helping my son move to Florida. I was pulling my utility trailer with my truck. We were leaving a Mcdonalds and I apparently left a scrape down the side of a car with my trailer. My son told me the next time we stopped two hours later.

I didn't realize I did it. Didn't feel a thing.

Though not with a Benz, I've had it happen a couple times. Once was at college, someone (had to be a lifted 4 wheeler) backed right over top of the rear bumper of our S-10 (didn't even scuff it) and made a V out of the tailgate, and left, took me 2 hours of a sledgehammer and come along pulling to get it straight enough where it would release from the bed latches. Wrecking yard gate fixed it.

The other one was in my old 77 Jimmy, I had those big stainless towing mirrors (I call them elephant ears). I was parked on the street spending the night over at a friends, we heard a smashing noise and looked outside, a little metric car had caught my mirror with his, mine just spun over backward, not a scratch, but you could find pieces of the car's plastic mirror everywhere, lol. He kept going...sucks to be him...I just laughed and turned my mirror back over, got revenge without even trying....

Jimmy,
I don`t know where on the central coast you live, but at the Pick N
Pull in Moss Landing, Ca, there is a 77 Coupe. saw it there last friday.
plus there is a bunch of molding and stuff in the trunk. not in the best
of shape, oh and I think it is a euro with blue cloth seats.

Thanks Charlie,
but I am pretty certain that a '77 is a different body style than a '80, and likely a different directional assembly. Am I right on this?

Jimmy Joe? Are you sure you're not from Alabama or Georgia with a name like that?

Sorry your coupe got biffed. I get PO'd at just finding a new door ding on mine.

A w123 coupe and w123 sedan share the same front clip, lights included. The '77 coupe should have the same front body parts and the '80.

Sorry you got hit!

Years ago, my mom got hit-n-run'd by the lawyer that worked in the building next door. He wouldn't pay until they produced a witness.

I think the guy was the Bart Simpson of lawyers.. "I didn't do it, nobody saw it, you can't prove a thing!"

something useful there for you.

Well, I am hoping sometime this week. If that fails, I might have to wait a couple weeks...it would be easier to hit one in San Jose. What do you need?

I go down to the Moss Landing one to see what new has arrived, thought
if you were going I could meet you eye ball to eye ball.
there are about 8 or so MB there various yrs. nice 81 240d 4spd there that
should be on the road.
