CCU Disassembly

CCU is out of the car (1985 California-spec 300TD, Frau Bluekar), and the bottom cover (covering the circuit board) came off without incident.

The temeprature selector wheel was no problem, fan speed switch assembly a bit troublesome, but it too is now off.

... and at this point I'm at an impass. There is a surround/fascia around the function select buttons. I've released the three clips which seem to hold it in place (one on top, two ono the bottom), and it come forward slightly, but will not come off.

I suspect that the illuminated buttons for the function switches need to come off first, but I've tried prying them (gently) without success (the fan switch buttons were much easier).

Are they indeed what is keeping that surroung from coming off, and what is the secret to removing these buttons?

Failing that, is there something else I am overlooking to get access to the inside of the CCU? Need to gain access to the relays, since I get no fan on the Economy setting, but it works fine on any other position.

Thanks once more,
Dave Stack

All of the buttons do indeed have to come off. I used a small screwdriver to get up under them and pry them off. The first one I was thinking I broke, but it wasn't. After the first, you know what to expect. Kind of like the first time I popped a key off of a keyboard.

We are the chorus and we agree, we agree...

ImBroke is right -- the buttons must come off. Gently prying with two small screwdrivers on opposite sides will pop them off their shafts.
