Still Overheating

Hi All:

I have been having a few headaches with my 96 E300. Last year the AC was not working so well so I brought the car in. At that point a bunch of stuff was replaced costing about $1800.00.

The AC works fine when the car is moving but in traffic the car was getting very hot almost up to 120 - redline. The AC would not work and would blow hot air. I do live in Fla and it is 95 to 98 degrees, but should this effect the car this much?

Last week I brought the car into get fixed again. These guys got me a new water pump and radiator. This works better but the car is still loosing AC in traffic and heating up again. The car is not getting as hot as before but is getting upto around 112 to 115 C.

Both fans work they cant seem to get it cooling enough. Winter will be here soon and all will be fine but it seems I'm paying a bunch to not get anything solved.

Any ideas.

Thanks.

Matt

Did they test and replace the thermostat?

I just went throught this recently with my 240D. I replaced the thermostat with a new one before I put a new(used) engine in my car. Had all kinds of heating problems untill I decided to test the thermostat when I was doing a de-oiling prior to a radiator flush. The thermostat was opening late and I also suspect not opening far enough. I put in a used thermostat I had that had tested out O.K. and heating problems went mostly away. Also, you have to make sure all of the air is out of the system. Air seems to make it run hotter and also makes the temp. gage needle jump around.
