A Little Fuel for the LoveCrap Fire

I recently met a fellow Chef at the farmers market who has, like me, been using his restaurants waste oil to run his 80's Mercedes wagon, via a lovecraft conversion. He was telling me about his newly converted (06 or 07?) M-class cdi, I dont know much about this car but it looks like a mini-van to me. I was hopped up on coffee and had been cruising the Mercedes shop forums a lot, and i hit him with all my anti lovecraft arsenal (i also have a 84 300d/lovecraft conv). I told him how balsey it was to put that conversion on a $50,000 auto, and I speculated about how his injectors would coke and when he started the car on the cold veg-oil, unburned oil would seep down the cylinder walls and infiltrate the engine oil. Blah Blah Blah You guys all know what im talking about, you taught it to me.... He dosent even pretend to know much about cars and just said " it runs great!" and " diesels were designed to run on veg oil" .

Anyway, today he runs up to me at the Market and says "you were right!" i guess he was having a problem with his turbo and when he took the car to Mercedes of Beverly Hills, the crank case was a couple quarts over filled. His engine oil was full of veg oil, it was gummed up and the turbo was shot! These cars aren't sold new in Cali. so the dealer dosent really have that much experience with them, but they were speculating it would need a new engine!

This all happened in a couple of months... He told me that he tried to contact Lovecraft and they wont return his calls.

This may be lost on members of this forum who are very MB savvy, but if you live in L.A. and dont know much about cars it is hard to know what crooks lovecraft are. They present themselves as people who are selling a valid, tested system. I really feel bad for this guy!

$50,000 SUV + $800 lovecrap "conversion" + $10,000 engine not covered under the warranty = VERY expensive lesson.

Post your story here: http://www.lovecraftbiofuels.com/index.php?option=com_joomlaboard&Itemid=40&func=showcat&catid=2

Im sure that when you are 18 years old, and have over 4000 post on the Mercedes shop forum, it is easy to think that everyone knows and/or cares as much about how diesels work as you do. The reality is that you are part of a slim minority.
The point of this post is that there is a company out there that is making false claims about their product, and ruining a large amount of cars that supposedly "we" (Mercedesshop forum members) care about. Most people on the road couldn't check their transmission fluid if their life depended on it, so why is someone "borderline retarded" for going into a shop that gets a ton of press, and paying them to do a service that they will swear up and down will work? There is not easily accessible information about the shortcomings of the lovecraft system, but there are fluffy PR pieces for days promoting them...

So my question is, if the chef's took the time to brew the WVO into bio, could they have ran it in a modern rail injected/high pressure system?

Honestly, I hope that his was not the only cdi that was converted by LC and died during warrenty. Not that I want to see these cars destroyed, but if MB steps up to say what damage this conversion is doing, and a few lawsuits to boot, it might be enough to put this guy out of business.

It's already posted. Someone named 'Smitty' put it under the MB questions.

It just shows that the hype and consumers limited knowledge about SVO is going to cause a lot of negative feedback to it. Mostly because no one put the effort into researching it and where it can be implemented safely. Sometimes... it takes $10,000 to learn. Plus people never take the time to read the owners manual.. I do believe the new CDI's have a little emblem on the gauge panel that does say DIESEL FUEL ONLY... should have been a hint eh?

rant off

Doubt it.. the pressures in a CRD are pretty high and would cause the fuel to polymerize... killing the injectors. Plus in a DI diesel a nailing injector will cause some nasty issues.... I've heard of pistons getting holes in them from fuel dribbling onto the hot aluminum

I do love lovecraft conversions for one reason..

once the engine is nuked... its a cheap parts car...

Hmmm, how like Lovecrap....they deleted it! I wonder if smitty got banned?? Basically smitty copied Quinn's post, edited out any names and forum names, and said he called MB of Bev Hills, and they confirmed a VO powered CDI did come it, and was destroyed by the usage of VO in a newer engine, and they said off the record they would prefer to Bio-D, but would still deny warranty if they found BioD higher than B-5 and any traces of straight VO. I guess I'll have to make another account since I keep getting banned and ad my own copy, but post in every section of thier site.
