black foam in vents

I have a little black foam in my vents. Did a search and found out about the sensor behind the glove box. I removed it and all I found was a line that was covered with foam about a 1/2 to 3/4 of a inch long. It was in good condition. Is this the sensor? Anyone have anythought on where this stuff is coming from. Any input appreciated.

Thanks Jim

spitting foam

The evaporater/heater box has several flaps that move and divert the air to where you want it. These flaps have foam on them to make a good seal. This foam deteriorates over time and occasionally bits of it will come through the vents when the fan is on. I have taken five evaporater/ heater boxes apart and the foam is always shot. The evaporater is also always clogged with dirt, leaves, bugs, ect. Once you replace all of the foam on the flaps and clean out the evaporater your AC will blow very strong through the center vents. On a 123 chassis It takes about two hours to remove the dash and center console and only another 45 minutes to remove the evaporater/ heater box. I'm not sure how long it takes on a 126. If you have a parts car you can remove the one on it first and have it rebuilt and ready to go.

I had the same problem for a while. A new hood pad fixed it.

Bruce Kennedy is correct. Don't worry about it.
