Is this 87 300D worth it?

I'm looking at buying this 300d the owner says it is leaking fuel from around one of the injectors, so it could only need a new injector and heat shield right? or could it be something alot more expensive.

http://tucson.craigslist.org/car/394746438.html

I want to get a better car than my 81 240D 4spd, so if i do get this the 240 will be for sale.

Could be as simple as

just needing fuel return lines (rubber braided lines). As long as it's not showing signs of a bad head it looks like a good deal.

I just called the guy and now he says it might have a fuel pressure problem at the pump

I found this pump is it a good price?

The last I recall

rebuilding a 603 pump was about $600 (if you bring in the bad one). They are usually a "life of the car" part, though.

It could be the lift pump - MUCH cheaper.

Probably not the pump. Clogged ALDA or something else. Might be an easy fix. Drive it... if it takes off like a dog, but comes alive at 2000-2500 rpms, then not the pump or turbo. Wish i were in Tucson!

thats what the guy says, it leaks fuel around the injector and it is slow to take off but after you get going it is fine.

so what is wrong with it?

im going to look at it tomorrow afternoon.

That the exact same thing that was wrong with mine. Replaced the return lines on the injectors and removed the ALDA. She now runs great and no diesel leaks. See posts about removal of 603 ALDA. If that's all that's wrong, then buy it!

Thumbs up

I'd go pick it up upon closer paint inspection. Take $1400 cash, offer $900... money talks... bull$hit walks...

Check for #14 head. If so, make sure the head isn't cracked. If you are not familiar with this problem, which is common to this year model, then search the forum archives. Lots of discussion on this topic.
