Battery Ventilation

I recently replaced my battery with one that featured a vent hose in lieu of vented caps.

Has anyone devised a means of dealing with the vent line so that corrosive gases are not just vented into the engine compartment? The instructions that came with the battery seem to suggest that some vehicles are equipped to deal with the problem. (ie: the supplied vent hose ties into some additional plumbing that is part of the vehicle.)

If the supplied hose is attached with no where to go, any discharge will just run into the battery tray and beyond.

I purchased an Interstste battery because it DID have that vent rather than the vented caps. I hooked a hose to it and ran it down to under the car to send the gasses down there. Just my idea, does anyone else do this? Am I nuts?

I also did the same. I zip-tied it to the part of the chassis where the guide rod mount bolts to (there's a small protrusion) to prevent it from being snagged away.

Routing it down is easy, I inserted it between the exhaust heat shield and the car chassis, behind the shield. The new battery came with the L shaped rubber hose so I just got the remaining 1/2 ID tubing I had and just inserted the L shaped hose in there (it fits snugly).
