87 300D this car keeps getting worse and worse
well i changed out the leaking delivery valve o-rings today one of them came out with metal "ring" shavings on the treads. other than that it went smooth, i replaced the springs and copper washers.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...7/e7f9ab5f.jpg one of the exhaust manifold bolts are broke off in the head and there is black gunk all round it http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...b/e7f9ab93.jpghttp://www.imagestation.com/picture/...2/e7f9ab81.jpg there is an oil leak at the bottom of the turbo, if you look close at this picture it looks like one of the bolts holding on the oil drain is missing http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...7/e7f9aba0.jpg damn EGR's my whole intake is full of this stuff and with the intake off the whole inside of the intake side of the head is full of this stuff, i would not be surprised if the intake valves do not close all the way. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...f/e7f9ab70.jpg for those who dont know the story of this car just read this thread http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/197113-87-300d-worth.html |
Your car reminds me a lot of the 87 I got rid of last year. My condolences.

If the valves weren't closing, you'd get a bunch of lifter clatter. They're hydraulic but they make noise at the slightest provocation. Sixto 87 300D |

"well i changed out the leaking delivery valve o-rings today" they were leaking real bad, I replaced them with viton ones. |
well i drove the car and this thing is fast, it shifts good too, so now i just got to figure out this oil leak, i hope its not something like the exhaust valve stem seal.

You can clean the #6 area well and watch if the leak is from the head gasket or manifold. I'm pretty sure it's from the manifold because head gasket leaks in that area are rare for the 603, though common for the 103 and 104.
Replacing valve stem seals in a 603 is a PITA but possible with the right tools. Don't scratch the lifter bores!!! Compared with a head gasket or valve guide, I would wish it's just a valve stem seal. Sixto 87 300D |
Thats not bad. Considering you picked it up cheap and it has a ton of miles on it.
The turbo isn't to big of a deal to reseal, its probably the oil line going in. Soak the intake in kerosene and it get all that junk out. |
I found this thread maybe my oil leak is this plug

Maybe, you need to clean it really well and see where its coming from.

i tried spraying engine degreaser up there because i cant get to it from the top. and i cant jack the car up enough to get the wand of my pressure washer up there. not to mention all that mess coming back down on top of me.
