quickie shutoff troubleshooting question
Hi,
Tracing down the "won't shut off" situation on a manual transmission 240D. Vacuum on the brown hose shuts it down right away, so from what I understand I'm down to either a leak somewhere else in the system or the key switch loop having a leak/not working. Now if I don't care about any of the non-essential vacuum consumers, how do I eliminate that possibility? I tried blocking off everything that goes into the firewall from the T on the hose between brake booster (?) and vacuum pump, but that didn't help things. I don't think this is the right thing to do though to get what I want. Which hoses should I unplug and block to leave just the key circuit operational? Thanks!

Leave the brown line hooked up, disconnect the rest. That will tell you if your ignition switch is working.
Or, just run a rubber vacuum hose from the shut off out the cowl or into the interior and shut if off with a couple of hard sucks.

Turned out to be an easy fix.
Made sure connecting the hose from the main T to the shutoff valve woked Connected the gray line that goes to the "ignition" switch right to the T and sure enough it worked too Now the only issue is that the vacuum doesn't bleed out of the circuit fast enough, so it's impossible to re-start the engine right after shutting it down. I guess I need to take a needle and poke the rubber hose to fix that. Do I understand correctly that the hoses I've disconnected were for door locks and maybe cruise control? This is a manual transmission 240D.

Brown is for shutoff
Yellow is for door locks Yellow/gray is for the vac. reservoir under rear window shelf in trunk Green/yellow is for a couple of vac pods for the heat/ac Black/yellow is for old style cruise I spent 4 hours working on mine today, so it is real "top of mind".
