Dolphin training? that's nothing!

We've been doing that in Australia for years! We've even trained the Ozzies not to notice our bad breath.

As promised:

This is after a mediocre wash/clean...the hardcore get-to-work clean comes on the weekend.

I'm already feeling the urges to over-fix things and restore this to its original glory. Whoever said that there is something that comes alive inside you that makes you want to fix everything in these cars was right.

Anyhow, I digress:

The bottom car is what the 300D is replacing. The Jetta has over 300K on it. It's a gasser, by the way.

You must drive a lot if you put over 300,000 miles on a 2006 Jetta as mentioned in your last post/signature, unless I got you wrong.

The Mercedes looks super. Sounds like you really stole it, so to speak

I am sure it is the right car for you. It looks amazingly untouched.

The license plates 3Vxxx xxx are from maybe 1998--1999, a post blue plate issue. There must be a story about the car with those. Not a big deal, could have been personalized plates, out of state plates before, or first plates lost or collided, then replaced.

It is the perfect color combination interior and exterior, and quite rare.

Looks well bought. Congrats

Wow, that is such a nice car for the price you paid. And hubbies too! I just love the black interior! You simply don't see it much. Nice seats, nice carpet, nice wood, nice paint..... Nice job!
That little VW looks mighty clean for that kind of mileage.......

And Jim B, I've never known anyone who knows more about license plates than you do. Interesting.....

Thanks, Jim!

First things first. The 300K is on the 1989 Jetta. In the bottom picture, with the green '89 Jetta, you can see my '06 GLI in the background.

With regards to the license plate: It had a personalized plate. I saw it with my own eyes when I bought the car. That metal VIN stamping that is on top of the books and keys in one of the photos I posted is given to the original owner and includes the sale date, car information, and what not. The name on that plate was the same name as the guy I bought the car from.

The car is great, I love driving it. Let the fixing, polishing, and bettering begin!

Cervan, you said that I would love the way the 300D cruises...you couldn't have been more right.

Thanks to ALL who have had kind things to say and who have been supportive and helpful.

Very nice car. My 240D came the same way with black sheepskins and dash cover. These were placed at purchase and so the interior is essentially new even at nearly 270,000 miles. I pulled the sheepskins but kept the dash cover in place. I had a feeling of deja vu when I saw the photos. My car came from Texas. The previous owner (original owners son) said they had 4 other 123's. I wonder if it was common for new owners to cover the seats and dash from new?

My euro TD is almost the same... I have the gold hue silver exterior and the black leather interior. I love it! how does the noise at speed on an 80 mile commute sound? I love my 79TD, but after a while on the road, the drone of the motor cranking 3500or more RPM's gets to you. it's so nice to jump in the 82SD after a week of driving the 79.... aaahhhh. even without any radio in the SD it's still nice.

oh, and are you SURE that's mb-tex? if so it's the best looking tex I have seen. the grain is near perfect, and the texture is very rich for tex. it looks JUST like the leather in my 85 TD.
and what's up with the older glove boxes? almost every one I have seen has issues with alignment just like yours...

All 3 of my glove box doors don't align properly, and I have tried aligning them numerous times! On both the 240's the glove box light is always on....

This may have been a good thing to say. I haven't driven my 2006 Jetta GLI in the last few days at all.

Driving this W123 is addicting. It amazes me that this 26 year old car is still in such good shape, and is so addicting to drive.

On a side note, I hope that the WVO (read: Lovecraft) craze going on in Los Angeles doesn't sideline some of these cars prematurely. I LOVE them.

I bought my first quarts of Delo 15W-40 today.

More tools, filters, parts to replace are to come soon!

Congratulations. In my area I'm seeing higher mileage cars in lesser condition offered at 50% more than you paid.
