funola,

This is excellent research and deployment of original thought!

Makes me wonder if this could develop into a retrofit kit to resolve most W123 inoperative tach issues originating from the infamous tach amplifier that suffers the mysterious kiss of death so common to the breed...

Although I have read a few posts about some who have revived their tach amps
with some careful cleaning and reflow of solder joints...but that's another topic.

Anyway, great idea and an excellent post.

Thank you, funola!

Reviving this!!

I have an 81 240D 4spd, I'll check tommorow for the EGR behind the kick panel.. But basically all I would need from a 300d (non 85 model) would be the tach/clock out of the cluster and the EGR... Then follow the DIY....

A revival meeting great. Some new members since the original thread may also be interested.

I use tachs on newer cars to establish if the engine is running sometimes. Or has started. So this would be a good modification for totally deaf owners of 240Ds.

Talking Deaf 240D Owners

Well ;

I'm profoundly deaf and need hearing aids but I have zero problems hearing or feeling the engine running in my '82 240D.....

I absolutely love this! Thanks for sharing! I just brought in a tach and I'm planning on doing the same modification.
