Turbo Drain Grommet....HELP

Good afternoon folks!
I'm trying to replace the grommet on the turbo drain tube, but as you can see on these pictures the grommet split open when i tried to put it on,even with some Vaseline it didn't work out well.
Do either end of this tube separate to fit this grommet in?

Just a thought...

I've never done one of these, so I might be talking nonsense, but, as well as using some lubricant, it might be worth heating the new grommet up - perhaps in some hot water, to make it more pliable before trying to fit it.

the grommet should take a fair amount of abuse without splitting as long as you use a little bit of lubricant. I can say I did split one though that was due to operator error and not a rubber problem. That said, the rubber from the one I split was definitely a bit harder than the one I got from the stealership as a replacement.

You need to get the grommet all the way on, and it will go all to the narrowest portion of the tube. Then insert tube in upper oil pan all the way and work the grommet in so it is "locked" into the pan. The grommet is second line of defense after the o-ring on the tube. The PO of my car didn't understand this, installed tube without o-ring and put a hose clamp around the grommet . Needless to say the TD needed a diaper.
